BULGARIAN MINIMUM WAGE

  • BGN 650 (approximately EUR 332) per month

Most of the businesses in Bulgaria pay higher salaries. The minimum wage is also a base of calculation for some social levies like health charges on unpaid vacations.

CAP ON SOCIAL SECURITY CONTRIBUTIONS

  • BGN 3,000 (approximately EUR 1,500) per month

Above this ceiling, salaries are only subject to tax but not anymore to social levies

WAGE TAX RATE

  • 10%

NUMBER OF HOURS PER WEEK

  • 40 hours/week

THE NORMAL LENGTH OF A WORKING DAY

  • 8 hours

NUMBER OF WEEKS OF VACATION PER YEAR

  • Minimum 4 weeks a year

OVERTIME INCREASE COEFFICIENT

  • 50% after 8 hours a day Monday to Friday
  • 75% on weekends
  • 400% on public holidays

NEED TO DRAFT AN INTERNAL REGULATION

  • From 1 employee

EMPLOYEE AFFILIATION PERIOD

The deadline to register employment contracts with the National Revenue Agency is:

  • Within 3 days of the conclusion of the employment contract and before the actual start date of work
  • Within 7 days of the end of the employment contract

LENGTH OF NOTICE IN THE EVENT OF DISMISSAL OF AN EMPLOYEE

  • From 1 month to 3 months (with the possibility of financial compensation in case of lack of notice).

LENGTH OF NOTICE IN CASE OF RESIGNATION

  • 1 to 3 months for indeterminate employment contracts
  • 3 months for fixed-term employment contracts

These notices can be replaced by financial compensation.

MAXIMUM TERM OF A FIXED-TERM CONTRACT

  • 3 years old

MAXIMUM DURATION OF THE TRIAL PERIOD

  • 6 months

MINIMUM AGE TO ENTER INTO AN EMPLOYMENT CONTRACT

  • 16 years old

MINIMUM RETIREMENT AGE

  • 64 years and 4 months or 39 years of career for men
  • 61 years and 8 months or 36 years of career for women
